What is the difference between a contactor and a manual service disconnect?
A contactor is electrically controlled for circuit switching. An MSD provides a manual service-isolation point and may include additional safety functions.
Is continuous current enough to select a contactor?
No. Voltage, make and break duty, short-circuit strategy, coil control, thermal conditions and electrical life also matter.
Can an existing contactor be replaced by a similar current rating?
Not without checking the complete electrical, mechanical and control specification, including mounting and auxiliary contacts.
What documents should be requested for safety components?
Specify the drawing, test report, traceability record or certificate required by the project. Documents are confirmed with the RFQ.
